Solar, battery and EV questions from Surrey homeowners.
Questions on how solar looks, how roof space is used, evening demand, planning and payment. Something missing? Let us have your details and we will look into it for your house.
Does an all-black array look better?
For most people, yes. The dark cells, frames and backing blend into the roof, so the array looks like one surface and not a grid of lines, especially against dark tiles. Output is broadly the same.
Which panels suit a small roof?
Higher-rated panels, because every square metre yields more. Their price is higher, so the proposal weighs the gain against the cost for your particular roof.
Can cabling and equipment be kept out of sight?
Largely, yes. Cable routes and the positions of the inverter and battery are planned at the survey so they are tidy and inconspicuous.
Will trees affect the layout?
They can. We model shade through the year, which may point to another roof face or to equipment that lets each panel work on its own.
Is a battery any use if no one is home all day?
That is the situation storage suits best: output goes into the battery during the day and comes back out when people return.
Is it possible to add storage to my current system?
Typically, once the inverter and wider set-up have been looked at. An AC-coupled battery can work beside an older string inverter.
Does the house keep running in a blackout with storage?
Only if the system is built for backup. Mention it early if you want it, and the options will say what is included.
Does premium mean paying upfront?
No. The same specification can be bought outright, paid monthly where you qualify, or started with nothing upfront on qualifying routes. Short 0% offers appear on selected products from time to time. Finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval, and the installation team acts as a credit broker, not a lender.
Does asking about payment options affect my credit file?
Asking about payment options is not a finance application and does not affect your credit file.
What do I get after sending my details?
First we judge whether the roof looks promising, and a short question or two may follow. A survey comes next, then written options that cover panels, layout, output, warranties and payment.
Can solar run my car?
Yes. A compatible charger and inverter send surplus solar to the car first. The EV charging page explains more.
Can I get a grant for a charger?
Not for a typical owner-occupied house: current rules limit the grant to tenants, flat owners and leaseholders, plus landlords fitting for tenants. Details are on the EV charging page.
Do I need permission to fit solar?
Mostly not, since ordinary houses are permitted development. Listed buildings, conservation areas and homes in the Surrey Hills National Landscape can need permission. See Why Surrey.
Is a listed building ruled out?
Not necessarily, but any alteration to a listed property needs listed building consent, and the conservation officer decides. We raise it when you enquire.
