Smart EV charging that fits a solar-powered home.
A neatly installed charger on a dedicated circuit, planned alongside any panels and battery so the car can use your generation where it can.
The assessment is free and obliges you to nothing. Payment options for eligible customers.
Home EV charging
Use the sun first, then the grid.
Given a compatible inverter, a smart charger can take surplus solar before it draws from the grid. If a system is already in place, we check how a charger would join it before choosing a model.
Many drivers charge overnight ahead of a commute, so the charger is also set up to suit your tariff.
Choosing between the main types.
Tethered
The cable stays attached, so it is always to hand. Simple for a single driveway.
Untethered
A socket for your own lead. Tidier on the wall and suitable for several vehicles.
Solar-aware
Sends your panel output to the car first and tops up from the grid only when needed.
Overnight charging and your tariff.
On a time-of-use tariff the charger can be timed for the cheapest window, with sunshine adding to it by day. Whether that pays depends on the tariff and your mileage, and we go through the figures with you before recommending anything.
Is a grant available?
The EV Chargepoint Grant currently covers 75% of the cost of a home charger, up to £500, but it has been restricted to renters, flat owner-occupiers and leaseholders, and landlords installing for tenants since 2022 (the £500 cap itself is an April 2026 increase from £350). Homeowners in a standard house are no longer eligible. We'll confirm what, if anything, applies to your situation as part of your proposal.
If the charger belongs to a larger project, finance covering the whole job can be arranged, including qualifying routes with nothing upfront.
Finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. The installation team behind Surrey Solar acts as a credit broker, not a lender. Asking about payment options is not a finance application and will not touch your credit file.
What the work covers.
A separate circuit
A dedicated run from the consumer unit, cabling included.
Capacity check
A full consumer unit is flagged, and the work needed is priced.
Cable route
A tidy path from the house to the car, clear of any public footpath.
Parking
A drive or private space within reach of the cable, checked at survey.
What drivers ask about home charging.
Can the car charge from my panels?
Yes, provided charger and inverter are compatible. Told to prefer surplus solar, a smart charger tops the car up at any moment the roof outproduces the home.
Do I need solar to fit a charger?
No, it is a separate job. Panels simply give a solar-aware charger something to work with.
Can I fit a charger without a driveway?
A wall-mounted unit needs a private space the cable can reach. Without one, public or workplace charging is usually easier.
How long does the install take?
Usually about a day, once the consumer unit has been checked.
Pair the charger with the rest of the system.

Plan a charger around the way you drive
Say what you drive, where it parks and whether solar is fitted already, and we will look at how a charger might be added.
Free, with no obligation. Asking about payment options is not a finance application and will not touch your credit file.
Nobody will hold you to anything here. If a charger looks practical, expect a short question or two about parking and wiring.
